Packing House, you know, before moving house
From little moves from university residence back home and back and then into an apartment where I lived for about 8 years and then into this house in 1999, I don’t have experience with the big ass move that we are about to embark on.
My question for you, dear people, is um, WTF? Suggestions? How do I help Charlotte transition into a new house? Do I worry about the cats at all? Do we pack all our dishes in garbage bags? Use bubble wrap for sweaters (if they are cashmere anyhow)? Any other advice is what I want here. We are having a moving company help us pack some things, but we will be doing most of it. The movers are also doing all the heavy lifting.
Also, I can’t drink, any other coping suggestions? Since I also can’t bury my head in the sand (for very long).

Unclogging my sink
Awesome!: your dad is handy and can unclog your sink!
Funny!: your dad asks you casually if you have a plumber’s snake. You tell him you have a hammer, if that is helpful?
Gross!: you have to clean the bucket of clog and the snake that smells of poo.
Best!: It only costs you a bag of pistachios.
Thanks Dad.

Moving House
CHAAAANGE!
I have been watching too much coverage of the American election.
I have also been awash in my own little world of change. Right now I am currently awaiting my first of two estimates from a moving company. We are going to get them to pack as much as possible – books, kitchen, CDs, clothes. Yes, it will cost a little more, but what is the price of my sanity? And Mark’s? Yes, Mastercard, it is fucking priceless. When we moved from our teeny apartment into this house we swore then with about 20% of the stuff we have now that we would never do it ourselves again. We are delicate flowers and I just don’t want to do the heavy lifting or the pain in the ass packing of my plates and shit.
Oh here he is. More afterwards….
I need to get out more and talk to actual people, i talked the ear off of the mover consultant guy.
* * * *
OK, I started this entry at 10AM and it is not 9:38PM. I was calling cleaning people, carpet people, painting people, people people, then i went for a workout with my trainer (down to once a week w/ trainer), and picked up Charlotte and had dinner and went out with my friend Klara for some window shopping and a coffee. Decaf w. Splenda of course. I am so glad I no longer have to use aspartame, that shit tastes like ass.
Tomorrow I have another moving guy coming to check out our crap and let us now how much it will cost to hermetically seal Mark’s stamp collection and have it escorted from one house to the other by a Brinks security guy. I mock because I love.
This is the biggest thing on my mind right now, the move. Followed by Mark going to the World Series of Poker again in July (anyone wanna hang?), then BlogHer the next week, then China (did I mention I won a trip to the Olympics?) in August and then I need to reschedule my knee surgery which was to be on our move in date. I know these are all good things, ‘cept the knee business, but my head is being kept on my neck by a safety pin and duct tape. It is all a lot for me to process in such a short time. I am also trying to keep focus on the proper eating and exercise after the weight loss surgery, which I occasionally fall short in my attempts. I could make eating right and exercise my full-time job right now. I didn’t get the surgery done, not to follow through. I can’t recall the last time I weighed myself – February? My only baseline is what size of jeans I wear at the Gap.
Here is a photo of the new digs. More photos on flickr if ya’ wanna.
